K-9 Selection and Training

The selection of dogs is one of the specialties of HPDogs-Solutions. Once the Detector Dog profile is established, during the selection process the dogs must present a range of skills that will be identified over certain exercises previously defined and evaluated by scientific methodology. The exercises include anatomical, physiological, psychological and health evaluations. In this way, the dogs will be selected according to the activity to be performed and the technique to be used in the training, greatly decreasing the risk of not reaching the High Performance. It is such a decisive step in the application process of dogs in their detection activities that it needs highly specialized monitoring. As an example of this importance, in the period between 2010 and 2014, the CEO of the company worked directly in the coordination of tests and acquisition of all Brazilian Federal Police (PF) drug and explosive detection dogs. There were over 400 dogs tested in the United States of America (USA) over a four-year period in major government suppliers such as Vohne Liche Kennels, AMK9, K2-Solutions, K10 Working Dogs, Ventosa Kennel, Cobra Canine, Southern Coast, Logan Haus Kennels, Haus Gill and K9 Enforcement. Due to the rigorous selection test, elaborated based on the knowledge acquired in the specialization in Germany, practical experience, academic knowledge and scientific methods, a low percentage of the tested dogs were approved. All dogs approved were trained and employed in real actions, being high the percentage of dogs that reached the standards of High Performance.

The training of the dogs selected by HPDogs-Solutions is carried out in a period of up to 02  (two) months, with a strict schedule and exercise protocol, and includes the following skills at the end, among others:

• Recognition of target odors;
• Discrimination of target odors between distracting odors or the absence of target odors;
• Standardization of detection work in a safe, controlled manner, in high performance and maximum efficiency over long periods;
• Possibility of operating the dogs by different individuals without loss of income, as long as they have standardized training from HPDogs-Solutions; and
• Conditioning to the detection work in persons, suitcases, home, office, warehouses in general, passenger vehicle and mass transport vehicle.

Dog training also includes the improvement of cardiorespiratory, thermoregulatory, neuropsychological and cognitive abilities. 

The introduction of the Drug and Explosive target odors is done with samples of the product that we believe to be the most indicated on the market, SCENTLOGIX, in all varieties offered. The method of using this product was developed by HPDogs-Solutions to achieve maximum performance and is based on the patent of the product, the manufacturer’s information, concepts of the chemistry, anatomy and physiology of dogs, and behavioral psychology. Product storage and handling follow the manufacturer's guidance and strict internal protocol.

The introduction of the target odors of Agricultural Threats is done with samples of fresh substances, according to the customer's needs, and they are prepared, stored and handled by HPDogs-Solutions, following a strict internal protocol.
